Message from the Captains

Dear Members,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome both new and existing members to the scenic and tranquil Mahee Island Golf Club for another busy year of golf.

Mahee Island Golf Club is famous for its panoramic views of Strangford Lough and surrounding areas. The Golf Course is maintained to an extremely high standard throughout the year thanks to the hard work and dedication of Course Manager Mr Wilson Gaw and his team, the slick, true greens being a test for any golfer in the golfing season.

To visitors and all those who use the club facilities a warm welcome is given by our Club Steward Mr Colin McCaw, who himself was raised in the local area and will always have time to answer any questions you may have about the club.

A fine way to finish your experience of this warm and friendly club would be a meal in our restaurant provided by Head Chef Mr Mark Spence and his team with Sunday Lunch being a speciality.

The Golfing season is almost upon us so its time to clean the dust off the clubs, polish the shoes and perhaps slightly more difficult, get some oil into those rusty swings.

I wish all team Captains, Player's and Caddies the best of good luck for 2010 and I am sure they will do the club proud.

One last thing to note Captains Day is on the 26th of June, which just happens to be my Birthday!

Looking forward to a successful year

Lady Golfers,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all our lady members, both ‘old’ and ‘new’, to the 2010/2011 golf season. I am sure that you are looking forward to getting the clubs out again for the first 18 hole competitions and perhaps enjoying some sunshine? Those of you who have been practising hard over the winter months and also the ladies who have been taking lessons from Gordon Fairweather may perhaps be more hopeful of getting into the ‘swing’ early on. Failing that we can always admire the wonderful views at Mahee.

Thanks again to our team captains who shoulder the difficult task of organizing the fixtures and compiling the teams. I would therefore encourage as many of you as possible to make yourselves available for selection. These matches are played in a spirit of friendly rivalry and provide an enjoyable opportunity to test your game on a number of local courses.

Congratulations to our caterers Clare and Mark Spence on their recent marriage. They will be starting their ever popular Gourmet Evenings soon so please, if you can clear some space in your diaries, you won’t regret it.

We are indebted to Christine Mitchell who produces our very entertaining news sheet each month but she does need you to keep her updated with results, anecdotes, photos, gossip even! Here are some items for your diary: Lady Captain’s Day - Friday 18th June, Ladies Outing - 19th August at Edenmore. Could I also recommend the club Mixed Foursomes which usually take place on the last Friday each month starting in April. Apart from The Murphy’s Competition, the foursomes are organized on a semi-open basis thus providing an ideal opportunity to invite non- members along to join in the fun.

Visitors to Mahee Island are invariably captivated by the beauty of the scenery and are equally impressed by the first class condition in which the course is presented. They receive a particularly warm welcome from our club steward Colin Macaw so please give him a call and make a booking.

Finally I wish you all good health to enjoy a successful and hopefully sunny season in 2010!

Enjoy your golf Ladies!

Best Wishes
